Abdulla Seushi and Salvatory Okumu from ARTI-TZ attended the Young Environmental Scientists (YES) conference in Dar es Salaam. The event brought together students, environmentalists and other young people who are making positive social and environmental contributions to Tanzania. The highlight of the conference came from the Biogas Committee from Azania Secondary School. The form 5 and 6 students who make up the committee introduced the potential of compact biogas systems as a means to reduce energy costs and deforestation as well as solve the problem organic waste disposal faced by urban secondary schools. The committee members successful made the argument that students can contribute to the welfare of their schools by adopting scientifically proven and tested technologies.
